Car Exhaust Systems

The main purpose of an exhaust system is undoubtedly to route the spent exhaust gas out of the car's engine. Along the way the exhaust gasses may be used to drive a turbocharger and now-a-days it will most definitely incorporate a catalyst converter to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. But on a high performance car, such as a modified street car, or a modified race car, the exhaust system is much more important as it has a direct affect on engine performance and engine power. As a result, the exhaust system, and particularly the exhaust header design, plays an important part in both engine tuning and car tuning.

In general terms, an exhaust system consists of an exhaust manifold (which is sometimes called an exhaust header), a front pipe, a catalyst converter, a main muffler or silencer, and a tail pipe with an exhaust tip. In terms of tuning the exhaust system, the muffler is the easiest to deal with it's simply a matter of replacing the stock muffler with a free-flow or high performance muffler, such as a Flowmaster muffler. The result is a free flow exhaust system. However, the performance muffler must have an inlet and an outlet pipe that is the same size (diameter) as your front pipe and your tail pipe. Your front pipe and your tail pipe should also have the same diameter. The rest of the exhaust system is much more complicated as you need consider back pressure, your engine's power band, and your engine's maximum usable RPM.

Car Nitrous Oxide

There are three points. First, nitrous oxide is comprised of 2 parts nitrogen and one part oxygen (36% oxygen by weight). When the nitrous oxide is heated to approximately 572F (on compression stroke), it breaks down and releases its load of extra oxygen, However, it is not this oxygen alone which creates additional power, but the ability of this oxygen to burn more fuel. By burning more fuel, higher cylinder pressures are created and this is where most of the additional power is realized. Secondly, as pressurized nitrous oxide is injected into the intake manifold, it changes from a liquid to a gas (boils). This boiling affect reduces the temperature of the nitrous to minus 127 Degrees F. This "cooling affect" in turn significantly reduces intake charge temperatures by approximately 60-75 Degrees F. This also helps create additional power. A general rule of thumb: For every 10 Degrees F. reduction in intake charge temperature, a 1% increase in power will be realized. Example: A 350 HP engine with an intake temperature drop of 70 Degrees F, would gain approximately 25 HP on the cooling affect alone. The third point, the nitrogen that was also released during the compression stroke performs an important role. Nitrogen acts to "buff or damper" the increased cylinder pressures leading to a controlled combustion process and better slower heat release

Latest Car Turbo Charger

The turbocharger, or a just simply the turbo, has been around for just on 100 years. It was invented by Swiss engineer named Alfred Buchi in 1905 and was first used on diesel ships and locomotives from the 1920s. It was used on production airplanes from the 1930s and on trucks from the late 1940s. But it only found its way under the hood of a production car in 1962 when it was used on the Oldsmobile Cutlass Jetfire.

As a forced induction system, a turbo is nothing more than an air pump that is driven by the engines exhaust gasses. It consists of a compressor-wheel and a turbine-wheel that are connected by a common shaft. The compressor increases the density of the air that enters the intake manifold by forcing more air than what the engine would normally suck into the manifold. This higher intake air density than produces more power when combined with the correct amount of fuel. This is similar to the way NOS allows more fuel to be burned by providing extra Oxygen as explained by Ian. The major difference between NOS and a turbo is that the turbo provides a constant supply of extra Oxygen while NOS only provides a limited supply.

- You can switch on or off your vibration sensor (with 8 levels of sensitivity adjustment) and it is programmed to distinguish between a real and a false alarm before it sms or call you.

- You will be sent SMS or called up when a intrusions occurred by burglars within seconds

- You will be called up with a voice prompt giving full details of the instruction and tell u what further action u should take;

- The system can be set to silent mode whereby no siren will be on but just SMS & call you when there is an intrusion, this mode is use so as not to alert the intruder.

- It is also equipped with a normal wireless keypad for you to dial out as normal mobile phone using the hand free kit

- It can do a voice broadcast and or monitoring-listen in;

- It is also equipped with an internal back up battery. Should the intruder able to disconnect the power supply & disconnect the siren, the GSM car alarm will senses it within a split second as a matter of fact & within a few seconds it will instantaneously send a SMS and or call the car owner. 3 preset

Lastest Dunlop Tyre Direzza DZ101

Dunlop, the iconic tyre brand, has announced the introduction of Direzza DZ101, a new performance tyre especially developed for high-performance and tuned vehicles.

This tyre, engineered and built in Japan, is designed for the ultimate car enthusiast, particularly targeting the fast growing vehicle personalisation segment, those who bolt on aftermarket parts to make a statement.

If you enjoy as much time under the hood as behind the wheel, this is the tyre for you, explains Craig Scher, Dunlop Brand Manager. Retail dollars spent on performance products used to modify sport compact cars has skyrocketed in recent years and car enthusiasts are increasingly looking for the perfect replacement tyre as part of this modification process.”Retail dollars spent on performance products used to modify sport compact cars has skyrocketed in recent years and car enthusiasts are increasingly looking for the perfect replacement tyre as part of this modification process.”

In the Direzza DZ101 we believe we have created the perfect tyre for this market thanks to the knowledge derived from Dunlop’s unrivalled experience in Motorsport.”

Dunlop has been at the forefront of motoring development for over a century becoming one of world’s biggest and most respected tyre brands designing, developing and producing tyres that constantly question and push the limits of technology. Dunlop is also the first and most crowned, winner of Le Mans 24 hour with 34 victories in the event, has achieved seven Formula One world titles and has 19 wins at Bathurst.

The Dunlop Direzza DZ101 brings cutting-edge DRS (Digital Rolling Simulation) technology from the racetrack to the everyday driving enthusiast, providing better performance in the wet as well as invaluable information about vehicle characteristics and road conditions, translating into actual vehicle and tyre performance.

The DRS technology simulates driving a vehicle with tyres while in early design stages, reproducing both tyre behaviour and road conditions digitally.

The same DRS technology also results in the Direzza DZ101 footprint on wet surfaces showing efficient drainage of water by analysing each tread groove. Direzza was also developed to maximise control of irregular wear, a noise efficient tread patter was developed using noise simulation, where optimum tread groove distribution was used.

Scher explains: “The directional tread design featuring large shoulder tread blocks enhances traction, stability and handling for maximum grip. Dual grooves spit out water so the footprint handles the road. Brake slots give DZ101 the extra oomph it needs to help stop even the most high-powered sports cars in their tracks.”

For the street, Direzza DZ101's sizes, offer the sport compact car enthusiasts "a wide selection of performance rubber for their tuned cars," Scher continues. "I believe they'll find Direzza’s 'tuner' tyre range unmatched."

“From the world of racing to the everyday road, Dunlop is committed to providing high-performance tyres. What is learned on the track is applied to the road through Dunlop’s extensive product portfolio which includes tyres such as the new high-performance Dunlop Direzza DZ101”.

The Dunlop Direzza DZ101 will be initially available in a range of sizes from 15 to 18 inch wheels.
